Note concerning Social Media buttons:
Shariff allows you to use social media without jeopardising your privacy.
The Shariff c’t project replaces the usual social network share buttons and protects your surfing behaviour from prying eyes. Nevertheless, a single click on the button is sufficient for information to be shared with others. You do not have to do anything else – the webmaster has already taken care of everything. The usual social media buttons transmit.
The user data to Facebook & Co. every time a page is accessed, and provide the social networks with precise information about your surfing behaviour (user tracking). You do not need to be logged in be or a member of the network to do this. On the other hand, a Shariff button does not establish direct contact between the social network and the visitor until the latter actively clicks on the share button. In this way, Shariff prevents you from leaving a digital trace on every page you visit and improves data protection. Then you can like, +1 or tweet as much you wish – the social network does not receive any other information. Thanks to Shariff, the “Likes” display comes from the operator of the page using the buttons. Because Shariff is incorporated by the webmaster, you do not have to do anything as a visitor.
